This is a post from Matt about graduating without debt. I’m grateful to the guest posters this week, since they have helped a great deal as I’ve been traveling.
Obtaining your college degree is one of the most beneficial accomplishments than any one person can achieve. The cost of college can be quite large, but there are ways to get around leaving college with an enormous debt. It may require a little bit of luck, but it has been said that people create their own luck. One of most important parts of graduating college with zero debt is by living as frugally as possible.
Government and Business Scholarship
If you have truly applied yourself, you may be able to get a full college scholarship. This will pay for your tuition throughout your four or five years of college. This ideal situation does not happen for everyone though, so you may need to explore other options. One of the best options is to look for grants to help fund your education. Grants can come from the government or big business. Take the time to apply for as many grants as you can find. Even if you do not receive the grant money, you will have honed your writing skills for the future.
Online Degree Cost Less
Another way to save a lot of money is by getting an online college degree. When you join the distance education revolution, you can save countless thousands of dollars on extraneous fees and room and board. You can usually get your degree from the comfort of your own home. This will also save you money in gas. You do not even need a car to get your education anymore.
On-campus Jobs
If you are living on campus, you need to make the most of your situation. Sign up to be a resident adviser and your room and board will likely be paid for. You also need to be frugal with your money. Take the time to look for coupons on the things that you need, and only buy what you absolutely need to have. If you need money, get online to Cash USA for some possible funding options. Colleges have many ways for you to make some extra money as well, so find a good job to help fund your living expenses. You may also want to find a group of people to share an apartment with. Splitting the cost of living among a large number of people will significantly reduce your college expenses.
You will really need to work hard and only get the things that you need to get out of college without any debt. Save as much money as you can, and make sure that you buy generic items at the store. When buying anything, get the best value that you can. The cost of groceries continues to rise, so always check to see which items cost the least per ounce.
Try to get scholarships, grants, and find a decent job to help you get through college without debt. Use coupons and be a frugal shopper to keep as much money as you can in your pocket.
